Instagram Guide to a Weekend in Miami

A weekend trip to Miami is made
even easier by how close the airport is to downtown. Depending on traffic, it's
usually only 25-30 minutes. I recommend checking flights at both Miami
International and Fort Lauderdale International (40
min. from downtown).
Where to Stay
South Beach:
Right on the beach in Miami,
here you will find the most expensive and extravagant hotels. Stay here for the
best access to the beach, but also expect tourists, rowdier night life, and
classic South Florida vibes when walking through historic South Beach.
Hotel Confidante has
recently gotten very popular amongst influencers for its adorable mid-century
modern decor - making it the perfect spot for Instagram.
Downtown:
Staying downtown puts you close
to everything but for a more reasonable price. Staying in the city means you'll
likely have to Uber to the beach (10mins) but, your hotel price will make it
worth it. Look for Bay facing hotels, this means you'll still get a water view,
but it will be of the port of Miami.
Staying downtown puts you
closer to Wynwood, the Design District, and easier access to places north a
south (Ft. Lauderdale, Coral Gables).
What to Do:
South Beach
South Beach is famous for its
art deco buildings and night life. Plan on strolling the strip but wear your
bathing suit to enjoy the beach after. Food in this area is a little touristy,
there are a few hidden gems. Lummus Park has bathrooms, beach access and is in
the heart of south Beach if you're looking for a destination to put in the
Uber.

Wynwood

Plan to spend a bit of time
here, I recommend going in the evening when the sun is still out to wander
around and enjoy the art followed by a progressive dinner though out some of
the hippest restaurants in Miami.
Visit Wynwood Walls. This
outdoor (and free) museum is open late and is the heart of the neighborhood.
Rotating artist features and galleries show amazing art and likely things
you've recently seen shared on Instagram. This museum is a good place to start,
and to use as you Uber destination.

Gramps - Trendy and dark outdoor/indoor bar space, chill for a drink at 6 or rowdy for a good time later on
The Butcher Shop-
German style beer hall, known for their meat selections. I recommend having a
pretzel and a beer here before moving on to a new spot.
Suviche Wynwood - Stop here
to get Peruvian style Pisco sours and Ceviche
Panther Coffee - Local
Miami roaster, not a lot of seating here, but come here before exploring
Wynwood for a pick-me-up
Coyo Taco - Small spot
(with a few locations all over Miami), don't miss the frozen blood orange
margaritas and the bowls
Concrete Beach Brewery -
No food served here, but excellent beer!
Dasher and Crank -
Ice cream, vegan options - but good either way.
Depending on the season, there are several lots filled with Salsa dancing, food trucks, and local markets - so be sure to take a lap before you make any final food decisions!
Miami Design District
New development in Miami, don't expect to shop here - only luxury and high-end stores, but if you appreciate art it's a nice spot to check out and wander around.
OTL Coffee
Other Notable Favorites:
The Daily Creative Food co. - great spot for a quick breakfast or lunch. They serve high-quality sandwiches, wraps, and salads in a fast causal environment.
